Lands End to Rest Bay Ride #LE2RB - Meet The Team - Chris Page (support crew)

Chris is currently club captain at Rest Bay. He has been a member of Rest Bay since 1990 when he joined as a junior. Since then Rest Bay club has grown from 10 members to around 200, the beach is now patrolled with vehicles, a purpose built lifeguard station has been built after a successful fundraising campaign and powercraft have become an integral part of patrols and rescues at Rest Bay. Outside of lifeguarding Chris is a member of Porthcawl Lifeboat Crew and works in the family business running an online DIY and Sliding Wardrobes store.

1) Why did you decide to take part in the Rest Bay 2 Lands End Cycle?
The theft of the ATV was a huge blow to the club and I thought the cycle was a great way to raise further funds.

2) How have you prepared for the cycle?
I'm part of the support team and been involved in a large part of the organisation. I've mainly being preparing by studying the route and forwarding Gavin (also support crew) lots of you tube videos on how to repair punctures etc.

3) What are you looking forward to most about the cycle?
The fun and banter. We'll be taking a PA along to shout motivational messages to the riders! I'm really looking forward to seeing the Cornish and Devon coastline too. A pint in The Thatch, Croyde is what I'm looking forward to the most.

4) How long have you been a member of Rest Bay Lifeguard Club?
23 years

5) Currently living?
Porthcawl

6) Favourite Food?
Pizza - preferably mushroom and onion and ideally from Pizza Express. Quite like Dominoes pizza too along with their garlic and herb dip.

7) Favourite Beach?
Rest Bay is definitely my favourite. It's where you're most likely to find me in the summer! Byron Bay in Australia is a very close second. Went there with the intention of staying for 3 days and ended up staying 10 whilst travelling east coast Australia.

8) Nicknames?
Pagey, Padge, Padgo.

9) Favourite music right now?

Mumford and Sons, Artic Monkeys, Ellie Goulding. Enjoy most music really. Loved the TV coverage of this years music festivals.

10) One thing you can't leave home without?
Sunglasses

11) Favourite past time?
Socialising with friends or patrolling Rest Bay.

12) Future plans?
Continue having fun and enjoying life!

Further Info on the Lands End to Rest Bay Ride #LE2RB
Following the theft of the ATV from Rest Bay Lifeguard Club in October 2012 our ability to launch our rescue craft and respond quickly to casualties on the beach were both in jeopardy. Potentially lives were at risk. It also meant that our ability to hold sea based training sessions for our nippers and juniors might not be possible. These sessions needed a safety boat present whilst they took place and without an ATV it was not possible to tow the IRB onto the beach.

Thanks to the support of the community we raised considerable funds towards a replacement vehicle but need to raise more to cover the full costs. To do this a team of our lifeguards will embark on a charity cycle later this month to raise funds towards the cost of the replacement vehicle. Click here to find out more about the #LE2RB ride
